About Us Our Team Our Story Launched in 2015 the Blue Datto Foundation is a registered not-for-profit dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of road trauma in NSW. We aim to do this by providing support and education to empower young people, families and communities. Blue Datto was established by the Vassallo family following the death of 17-year-old Philip Vassallo in a crash in which both drivers were red ‘P’ platers. Philip, 'the Kid in the Blue Datto', was a much-loved teenager who brought happiness to everyone who knew him. Philip and the Vassallo family’s story is central to Blue Datto’s award-winning Keeping Safe road safety education program, that aims to equip young drivers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to keep themselves, their friends and family safe. In 2018 Blue Datto delivered Keeping Safe programs to more than 7,000 young people across NSW. Blue Datto also offers support services to individuals and families impacted by road trauma, and undertakes community awareness activities with the aim of starting a conversation about road safety at the family and community level. Blue Datto was recognised for ‘Outstanding Achievement’ at the 2018 Australian Charity Awards, while Keeping Safe won the Community Program category at the Australian Road Safety Awards as well as the prestigious Founder’s Award for Outstanding Achievement. This follows a win of the School Category in 2017.
